nwsp2 classic gpt support

the nwsp2 hardware limit is about 25 MB/s I think mainly because of the cpu running at 800 Mhz.

And unfortunate the GPT disk did not boot, got the red led flashing meaning the disk was not recognized. So still something not 100% right :scratch It can also be the preparation of the disk, so for the moment back to the drawing board.
Maybe my gdisk is not perfect to prepare a gpt disk

yes I know this a 1 TB disk with 512 physical and logical sector size, so no problem with that.
It might be that the bootloader is confused by the protective MBR record showing sdc1 as one partition.
But I am sure we are going to crack this nut, its a matter of time..

let me have look, if I can't trace the problem I can sent you the new kernel and u-boot to see if you can get it working, I do not use a PC running Linux but everything on the nwsp2

That is fine by me.
I was using ubuntu live CD btw.
If you can't get it working, i will give it a shot.
Can i use the uboot 51 file with gpt support (firmware 11 of downloadpage).
Or did you make a new one?

:rock the problem is solved, I forgot to write the kernel to partition 6  :doh :pound :laughat :tapfoot

Indeed without a kernel it won't boot.
Its up an running

Code: Select all
root@nwsp2-3:/ # fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
256 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121126 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16128 * 512 = 8257536 bytes

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks  Id System
/dev/sda1               1      121127   976762583+ ee EFI GPT

Code: Select all
root@nwsp2-3:/ # mount
rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
/dev/root on / type ext3 (rw,relatime,errors=continue,barrier=0,data=ordered)
none on /proc type proc (rw,relatime)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw,relatime)
/dev/sda5 on /rw_fs type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=continue,barrier=0,data=ordered)
tmpfs on /rw_fs/tmp/usr/var type tmpfs (rw,relatime,size=5000k)
/dev/sda8 on /share/1000 type ext3 (rw,relatime,errors=continue,barrier=0,data=ordered)
root@nwsp2-3:/ #

To get information on the partitions we will need to add gdisk to the firmware.

But it looks good :punk

...mmm a beer would be nice but a nice 3 TB disk would be better. I will do some more testing but I think GPT support is a reality on the nwsp2 classic.

I am little slow today but thats because I am also scanning slides (dia's) from the past at the same time. The scanner is slow and in between I have time to work on the u-boot.

To be able to flash u-boot you will need to have our firmware running with the new kernel using still a ms-dos partition table. The new kernel will allow writing to the flash, nr 51 can not be used for that. After writing the new U-boot you will need to prepare the disk once more but then in GPT format. Little complicated but I do see another way to get the new u-boot on the box.

3TB drives are nice indeed, but unfortunately a bit expensive.

And doing other stuff like scanning dia's is also important, so it doesn't matter.

I am now using the latest firmware. (fvdw-sl-14-0)
And i am still using my 3TB hdd with mbr, so this won't be a problem.

So i should be able to write the new U-boot already.
The only thing left to do is reprepair the disk.
Not that complicated?
