Mount 2 USBdrives by USB HUB

Mount 2 USBdrives by USB HUB

Postby JDZ01 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 11:09 am

Hi, I connected 2 USB-drives via USB-HUB in the front-USB-port of my Lacie Networkspace2.
Only one drive (sdc) is recognized by fvdw firmware. (Picture of fdisk -l attached). Sdb is not automaticly mounted by fvdw.
What to do?

TIA

if the label name of the disk contains space or characters like ' or " then it confuses the php scripts
check the label of the disk in sdb

second possibility not supported file system although your fdisk mentions linux

currently ext2/ext3 fat fat32 and ntfs are supported

as said, check the Label name (the name you assigned to the disk when it was formatted)
no space or characters like ' or " in the label are permitted

Thanks for your answers! And even more thanks for your great software. It was indeed a formatation-problem. I formatted the drive now from the linux-machine of my pc, and now it is recognized ánd mounted.
But... mounting of the two drives now gives new problems.
In the 'usb-disks' section of the webinterface of FvdW I see two USB-drives now... but it is twice the same drive, sdb1. With putty I see that sdc1 actually ís mounted, but sdb1 ánd sdb2 are mounted on the same mountpoint, Volume_1.
What to do now?

that is because the label name of both disks is "Volume_1"

use a different name for the label for the second disk and then it should be ok

Thanks for detecting this i think we much build in a warning in case lable names of the disk are the same

The labels were not only the same... Both were now new formatted disks - so both disk were nót labeled at all. Volume_1 seems a kind of standard-label of the system.
However, now I labeled my second disk, and it works like a charm.
Thanks

well the firmware read the the label as present on the disk and uses that name to make a mount point.
Looking to the output you posted they must have had the same label (name) as it defined the same mount point
I assume that you maybe do not understand what I mean with "label" name. It is not a sticker on the outside but a name assigned to the disk by software formating the disk. In windows it is the name of the disk that you see when looking at properties. If you know what label was forget this remark. ;)
I never tried what happens when there is no lable defined (thats what you mention in your last post) it could be that it then defines a name like Volume-1, but it should check if not already a mount point exists with that name and use then Volume_2. So still some improvement possible on our side

I am glad to hear it is sorted and everything is now working according your needs ;)
