fvdw-sl-assistant feedback

Postby Fuddyduddy » Fri Aug 22, 2014 9:56 am

Hello

(f/w ver. 15-3 installed)

I'm finding Assistant very handy to use, but have to make one important reservation. That is, that on my PC WOL "wake up" isn't working.

Clicking on the "NAS standby WOL" button in the Web interface 'Shutdown/Restart' tab puts my NS2 into standby mode. All subsequent attempts to wake it up via the Assistant's 'WOL dialog' button then, after selecting device "fvdwsl-base", clicking on the "Wake up" button fail.

No one else is reporting this failure, which is puzzling; is it a known bug in this beta version?

(I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit)

I tested it on my nwsp2, it works ok.

Choose "nas standby WOL in the webinterface and wait until the NAS enters "WOL mode, the blue led should go out.
In the fvdw-sl assistant use the WOL dialog button, in the window that pops up select your nwsp2, it should be listed you can recognize by the mac addres, when you have selected the nwsp2 click wake up and the magic should happen.

Hi fvdw

That's exactly the procedure I had been following from the start, but with complete lack of success in my case.

I've just repeated it, as a test. I highlight the NS2's MAC address and click on "Wake up"; a message appears saying a magic packet has been sent, and then - nothing!

Are you running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit?

no I am running windows 7, but that is not important. Probably it has to do with your router settings if it blocks broadcasting then this won't work
Further check if the mac address is correct compare the one in the fvdw-sl assistant wol window with the one you can see in the web interface of the fvdw-sl firmware

Hi Fruddyduddy,

I have a PC with Windows 8.1 64bits and I don't have your issue.

For checking your LAN, you can try to use a dedicated wake-up program like "WOL Magic Packet Sender" (used as protocol UDP and port 9)

Hi Jocko

I've installed this and tried it out (Im currently working in XP btw). The packet was received by the NS2.

What now? Am I to use this in place of Assistant's 'WOL dialog' from now on to wake up the NS2?
