5big Network - No starting OS

Hello!

I picked up a 5big Network that came with no drives and, hence, no OS. I've since put a 2 TB drive into it. Originally, I tried to put the LaCie OS onto it from a disk image I found through poking around... That seemed to allow me to do a factory reset... (hold down button during power own, flash, flash red, solid red, release, flash blue...) but after 24 hours, it's still just doing the 1 second blue flash on and off with a solid blue light on the drive.

That brought me here. I followed the directions in the howto-fvdw-on-lacie nwsp2-5jan2012.pdf document in the HowTo section, substituting the 5network V1 firmware and image... At this point, it turns on and does a .8 second blue flash front and back...

I suspect that the problem is that I don't actually have these files from the instructions: "(m) write the files in the tar ball sda5-lacie-nwsp.tar.gz to sdb5 "

Is there a tar ball for the 5big v1 with these files, or should the nwsp files work? I tried using what seems to be that tar from the most recent windows version of the installer (for management after the initial install) but still just blue flashing lights.

Thanks!

Hi

You can use fvdw-sl console to install the firmware :

Thanks for your response... Unless I'm mistaken, however, the FVDW-SL console can ONLY be used to install to the NAS over the network. If you refer to my original post, the NAS has no working OS on it at the moment and is not discoverable on the network.

Am I missing a function that the console has that allows installation to a local disk?

Ah hah... never mind... I didn't realize that the NAS tried a TFTP boot if it didn't have a valid OS! Thanks

Yes fvdw-sl console allows to install our firmware even if you do not have a root access or you have empty disks

Ok... That's made some progress... It appears to work, but after completing the reboot -f, the drive starts with flashing blue lights which eventually turn solid but the device seems unreachable on the network. I've tried scanning for it manually with nmap in addition to checking the DHCP logs on my palo alto.. Nothing.

What am I missing?

Hi

First are you sure to have a 5big1 and not a 5big2 ? On a front side, you have 2 LAN ports, 2 usb ports and 2 esata ports with a 5big2

If it is a 5big1, you can also use fvdw-sl console to detect what is the issue by selecting the action "Standalone kernel, load and start"

So
1/ stop the nas
2/select the action "Standalone kernel, load and start"
3/select only this kernel image : UIMAGE-26394-5BIG1-45-standalone
4/start the nas only when it is asked (popup with message "waits for U-boot")
5/ wait up to a telnet window is displayed and connect you

then, do
Code: Select all
mkdir /sda7
mount /dev/sda7 /sda7
and post the content of /sda7/boot.log if it exists
Code: Select all
cat /sda7/boot.log

Hi,

we have two 5big vs1.

I've tried to "Standalone kernel, load and start", launch tftp but doesn't transfer any data. After this, launch telnet but no connect to 5big.

Please, could you help us ?

Best regards

Probably your firewall is blocking file transfer. Disable it ir grant access to tftp server to pass firewall
