Hi Taetae

this weekend I will have closer look to the kernel. To reduce size it might be that I took out some features maybe these changes cause this behavior
The 5big1 can only load a kernel smaller then 2 MB while nwsp2 can load a kernel of more then 5 MB.

I am pretty sure that the kernel is not the problem

Your windows PC is for whatever reason is dropping the connection.
This could be a virus scanner problem. Try if it runs ok with your virus scanner disabled (just for test)

Another test you could do is setting your LAN card of the windows PC to a speed of 100Mbits instead of 1 gigabit.

:scratch
if you use a 100mb network card then it isnot possible to achieve downloads speeds higher the 10 Mbyte/s (1 byte= 8 bits)
The speeds you showed in the screen shot before show values up over 40 Mb/s this is abnormal high for a 5big1.

It seems something goes wrong in the communication.
This can be either the windows PC but also the network switch or router. The funny thing is that ftp works well you mentioned. Whta are the speeds you achieve when downloading a big file from the nas to a PC using FTP ?

I read something on these errors on the internet related to ports used by samba

I modified the samba script that generates the smb.conf file to set only port 445 to use.

Check your pm box.

Tomorrow I'll be home so I can see fisicamnete also the thing ....

However, I did change the router believing that the problem was and he does the same, I've tried three different PC on the network and does not work with all three transfer .... ftp instead of traveling so much in fact 6 gb file them ends 3 minutes

I modified the file you sent to me but it does not change the operation is interrupted as first used on windows 7 windows 8.1 and windows xp

very strange, you should now again the smb log to see if we still have these messages.
Furthermore 6 GB in 3 minutes is very fast for an orion processor. I still think that your router or network switch with cable used are possible suspects.
Hover because it only happens with download and not with upload this brings as supects the pc's, but if you use XP and 8.1 then the nas cannot be excluded as well. Need to think what option we have to investigate

you could test network connection from nas to pc using the ping command
This command will keep sending package of 1500 bytes (the MTU value a used by the NAS)
(I assumed you pc has ip ending with .29 if different you muts change it.
So after connecting with ssh give this command and let it run for a while
Code: Select all
 ping -s 1500 192.168.1.29

another trial you could make is disabling SMB signing on win 7 and 8 clients. By setting the values of the registry keys:
EnableSecuritySignature
and
RequireSecuritySignature
to 0 (zero)
in the the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters

ps
I checked on my system, the first mentioned parameter has value 1 but the second one has value 0.
This could also bring some speed increase as authentication for each package is then not done twice (on server and client)

If you have the same settings as on my system then you could try what happens if you use both values set to 0
