By copying files from the NAS with the latest firmware 18.2 is very slow. I thing it uses the samba 1 on that last firmware. 10mb-15mb per seconds. Very slow.

I am open to donate it to get the latest samba version BUT should that be help speed of copying files from NAS to another PC on netwerk?

Did a previous firmware perform better? 10-15MB/sec is not bad at all for a 400MHz Orion machine with 64MB ram. Here you can find some performance measurements for the comparable (yet 500MHz) DNS323. As you can see it doesn't do better.

I think samba 4 will not give you a huge speed increase. This because of limitations in cpu frequency and ram size as mentioned by mijzelf. Maybe it will go up for reading to 25 MB/s for large files
