[Solved] Unable to install fvdw-sl v18.3 firmware on 2BigNAS

Postby macintosh » Wed Apr 02, 2025 11:24 am

Hello
I have two LaCie devices
One CloudBox that works perfectly with fvdw-sl v18.3 firmware
and
One 2Big NAS that is out of service.

I've been trying to install the fvdw-sl v18.3 firmware on the 2Big NAS without success !
I tried "install fvdw-sl firmware" and also "write fvdw-sl firmware to disk", without success !

Telnet fails irretrievably.

If i use U-Boot console only, it's work fine.
And the IP (192.168.1.252 for me) it's OK and speak with 2Big NAS.

Is this a common/recurring issue, or is my methodology flawed?

Maybe my 2Big NAS isn't like a 2Big Network ?

Do you want me to run some U-Boot commands to give you some information ?
If you have any tips on this, I'd love to hear them !

Thank you.

Hi

Maybe your "2big nas " is not really a 2big v1 but 2big nas v2 with a chipset Marvell Kirkwood 88F6282, named also 2big nas (see:https://lacie-nas.org/doku.php?id=2big_nas)

In this case try to use the kirkwood standalone kernel image instead of the 2big1 standalone image

I Jocko
Thank you for your prompt response.

OK, Is there a risk if I try it with a different firmware?
Do I need both drives in the NAS, just one (the left one, okay) or is it possible to install the firmware without a drive?

I admit that on my Cloudbox (white) I didn't have this problem because there was no RAID, and I knew the LaCie firmware was on the drive and the name in the drive's ROM...

Thanks for your suggestion, I'm going to try the Kirkwood firmware...

I'll go for it right away!

I'll keep you updated on the progress.
Cheers

Hello again, Jocko.

Okay, the Kirkwood version seems to work better...
Telnet OK, but crash when copying data to Sda5!

I'm trying to install on partition 1, 2, or 7... But then, do I have to install on partition 1, 2, or 7, or on all the 3 partitions?

Is there another way to copy/create the database in Sda5?

Sorry for my questions, but I'm not sure I've mastered everything!!!

[Solved] Unable to install fvdw-sl v18.3 firmware on my 2Big

Hi Jocko

Well, I did the whole installation with the Kirkwood Standalone firmware.
I still had the crash on the access (after formatting OK) of the sda5, always :fuming

So I removed everything.

I disassembled all the disks and deleted all the partitions by hand (fdisk), reassembling just disk n°1 (on the left)...

I re-downloaded the " fvdw-sl-console-6-18-3-26feb2024-32bits" and redid everything with the Kirkwood.

It worked on the 2nd try (still the sda5 error on the 1st try).

I then initialized the 2nd disk in the NAS and created Raid 1

Everything works perfectly! :hail

Thanks for your help!
