How to install fvdw-sl from Linux?

Postby Sm0q1234 » Wed Jul 04, 2018 10:34 am

Hello,
I'm having trouble to run fvdw console and all supporting services on Win (due to strict GPO) and personally I use linux, can someone make a short how-to install fvdw from linux console?

As for now - I'm able to get clunc [Marwell] prompt. I also set up atftp and I run tftpboot command (uploading UIMAGE-3142-KIRKWOOD-158-standalone)...

What's next? :)

Thanks in advance

Just try first to disable your firewall on your window 7

Unless the computer is not yours, you should be able to grant to administrator privileges and thus change your settings.

What you could try is in linux make a folder and store the fvdw-sl-console with all its additional subfolders and files in it exactly as you would do on windows. Of course you cannot run the console under linux but as you seems to be able to upload a kernel via tftp you have a tftp server running and that should be able to upload the script fvdw-sl-programs or fvdw-sl-installer and run that on your nas. Your tftp server should remain active all the time and use the tftp folder of the fvdw-sl console as base folder.
When the standalone kernel is running, type
Code: Select all
fvdw-sl-programs
on the command line. If your tftp server is setup correctly it will upload some binaries and a menu will popup letting you start the fvdw-sl-installer. Answer the questions in the dialog boxes. When install is successful reboot the nas using reboot -f command

Al depends on correct functioning of your tftp server and correct directory structure of the console.

Worked :) Perfect! Thanks for help. Actually it was pretty simple, I thought I will need to partition manually, bootstrap etc... :) Thanks again.

Hi. I don't have windows, so I installed TFTP in UBUNTU, and I make the tftp folder as a base folder of TFTP server.
but I don't know how to upload the kernel to my Lacie Cloudbox 3Tb and make it run.

any help I will be glad. thanks.

Hi, similar issue here.
I don't have a Windows computer and I did install fvdw (using the packages fvdw-sl-console-6-18-1-v2-29jul2019-32bits.part*) back in april using tftp on ubuntu 20.04 (VM with bridged adapter). Recently the NAS disappeared from my network and when I checked the hard disk didn't sound healthy. I decided the disk had died and now I am trying to re-install fvdw but somehow I cannot recall how i did it before.
When starting the cloudbox with the old disk, the led flashes blue for a while and then after a red flash it stops.
When I start it with a new disk it spins up the disk and the led is just flashing blue all the time.

Thanks in advance and cheers!

Well, it could be my stupidity but I don't find clear info about doing it from linux. It's a pity, because you've done an outstanding job with the fvdw firmware...
Thanks anyways.
