Hello,

I have a Lacie CloudBox (White) which is in factory reset mode: no data and upon first boot it is asking to set admin password.

Can fvdw be installed using the script or does the harddisk need to be formatted first, i.e. all existing partitions need to be removed?

How robust is fvwd running on this device?

yes it can be installed using the fvdw-sl console and the disk will be formatted, all existing partitions must be removed

How robust ?
Well Rimoth is uing it for quite a while. I think it will equal robust on the cloudbox then on other device. recently we had a user that had to reboot a device after 3 year of operation. So it still can be improved I guess :-D

I really regret the purchase of the Lacie CloudBox, as the advertising of it's media streaming functionality is missleading: in Portugal, where I live, nobody watches video without matching srt files.

Unfortunatly, I cannot return it, as the shop excludes external harddisks on their return policy.

Anyway, being stuck with it, I really would like to give your firmware a go. What is not clear to me, is this: do I need to MANUALLY whipe the partitions or does your script take care of that? Also, is your script identifying the CloudBox as a CloudBox or as the generic Lacie NAS which has the former partition layout?

The question is because I read the other topic (6 pages) with lots of back and forth and I am trying to avoid sleepless nights...

I would skip the part of making backups of the partitions.
You can use the fvdw-sl console for installation. Just pretend you have a nwsp2.
Start the fvdw-sl console and choose as action to install fvdw-sl firmware, load the standalone kernel (pretend you have a nwsp2) and login with the telnet client.
Do not start the action to upload the fvdw-sl installer as mentioned in the instruction, we will delete the old partitions first.
(So we skip the backup of the existing partitions, if you want them you need to read the pages in the forum).
To delete them start gdisk in the telnet console.

Code: Select all

gdisk /dev/sda

print the partition table by giving command p when gdisk is running.
Now delete all partition the command "d" (without the quotes) and give partition number to delete,
when all are gone give command "p" to see if they are all gone
If so give command "w" and answer "y" on the question if your sure.
Now continue with the instructions to install the firmware (step (8) to upload the fvdw-sl-installer and so on
After installing the firmware perform a reboot. the fvdw-sl firmware will be running and just perform a firmware upgrade using the webinterface and use the cloud box upgrade package for fvdw-sl-15-1

I just finished installing the FVDWSL-BASE firmware.

I was going to flash the CloudBox firmware version, but under Firmware Update -> I only see Upload Patch and the file selector will not work.

Can you please help me?

which version of the fvdw-sl console did you use ?

you can check if you look to system->information
If you run fvdw-sl-15-0 you used old version of the fvdw-sl console
In that case you need to install this patch to get the firmware upgrade menu visible
This because 15-0 was not yet prepared for cloudbox.

I just saw that one before you posted your last reply.

Strangely, I couldn't upload it, as the pop-up window did not show my file system (Windows 7).

I did a ssh with root account and copied the tabs.js file manually. Then I did a refresh in the browser and the menu item was there!

Upgrading right now...

Two things:

1) It still says NAS : FVDWSL-BASE. Is this right? I was expecting somethiing like FVDWSL-CLOUDBOX
2) The Upgrade menu is missiing again. No big deal, I can transfer the file (manually) again. Will it survive a reboot?
3) I am using 15-1, so there is probably still this error.

Anyway, thanks so far: SRT subtitles are now WORKING!!! :)

it seems that in 15.1, we still use a wrong file.
So you need to install a patch for version 15.1
Need a short time to do it
