Twonky, Windows 7 and a tablet - problems

Twonky, Windows 7 and a tablet - problems

Postby anpulli » Tue Feb 04, 2014 2:32 pm

Finally got my Cloudbox up and running with the latest fvwd available and it seems to be really great comparing to the original firmware. Network sharing works as it should - I can copy and move files to the NAS and back.

Then I decided to add media server capabilities and ended up with Twonky 7. And now I'm a bit lost. :) How can I for example share a video folder so that I could copy the files with my Windows desktop and then view the videos with my android tablet via Twonky Beam or some upnp/dlna-capable player? If I create a folder like "video" in the root folder of the NAS I can see it in Windows Explorer but when I set it as a shared folder in Twonky settings it's not visible with my tablet. It looks like the tablet only sees the default Twonky share to which I cannot copy files to because I can't find it anywhere. Do I need to refresh or update Twonky's library? How?

All this was possible with the original firmware and believe it should be with fvwd too. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance!

Hi anpulli

How do you start twonky server ? and after set the share 'video' as shared folder in Twonky settings. Do you make again a scan ?

Hi!

Twonky is set to start at boot and I can also start it via the button in fvdw settings. I actually found some kind of a solution at some forum - I can force Twonky to rescan the folders with rpc command "rescan". After that the folders and files appear correctly in my tablets upnp-players list. Now the problem is that I have to force the rescan manually every time I copy some new files to the folder.

Oh.. now I found the rescan-button in the Twonky advanced settings..

But still, how to make Twonky see newly added files or folders?

Some progress.. I found out that I can set scantime to -1 with either rpc command or in Twonky settings. Now the problem is that the setting won't stay. After I set it with
Code: Select all
twonky_ip:9000/rpc/set_option?scantime=-1

and view the settings with
Code: Select all
twonky_ip:9000/rpc/get_all

it seems OK. But after restarting Twonky in any way the value is gone. If I log on to the Cloudbox with ssh and look at the twonkyserver.ini in /var/twonky/TwonkyServer the value is listed correctly. Is there a way to make the setting stay? Or is that ini-file even used for anything?

I don't quite follow.. what do you mean by how? I've set it to start on boot and restart it from fvdw settings or Twonky advanced settings. How should it be done and what is the difference?

Where does Twonky read it's settings from during startup?

I wanted to check if you use twonky menu in the web interface of the firmware or you use directly a command line because in this last case some settings in the ini file are bad configured. (These are overwritten by the start command line)

About rescan, this setting is available in the twonky interface.

Yes, I noticed that. But if I set it to "-1" it seems to make no difference to refreshing the folders and files. Newly transferred data doesn't appear on my players list. Only after I manually force the refresh I'm able to see the files. And if I restart either Twonky or the Cloudbox the setting returns to blank. Not even zero or any other numerical value, just blank "scantime="

Shouldn't this work in a way that new files would automatically be shared?

I checked the command line used to start twonky and this option is present here (-scantime). So you can not handle this option in the twonky interface.

Do you enable in fvdwsl web-interface the option 'Enable notify' ? if you don't enable it only manual scan allows to add new file.

Notity is enabled in the web interface. Twonky still won't make new files available unless I go and click the "rescan content folders" -button in the Twonky interface. How long is the default notify period and can it be adjusted? Is there a place to modify the scantime parameter? If fvdwsl sets a value to it, shouldn't it be visible with Twonky's rpc command get_all?
