Just bought a Cloudbox. Installation post will follow

Hi!

I just bought online a LaCie cloudbox, and I expect it will arrive here by the end of this week. I was undecided beetween Seagate Central, WD My Cloud and LaCie Cloudbox. WD My Cloud 3TB is about 175€, with a nice web-interface and pretty hackable. Seagate Central 3TB is cheaper, about 150€, but for now no one has been able to find a toolchain to compile things, so its hackability is limited. Then a saw a discount on LaCie Cloudbox 3TB, 127€ disk + 10€ shipping, and looking around I came here and saw that "things can be done", so I bought it.

The Seagate and the WD have an USB port, so you can connect things like a printer or an usb disk to expand the capacity (or more interestingly, to give some redundancy to some data in the NAS), that's a downside for LaCie because it doesn't have any. And the web interface seems more limited (and not so pretty :P) than the other two. For instance, their web interface has a movie player that streams media from the NAS directly in your browser, so you can stream a movie just visiting the webinterface. But all the functionalities I've seen in this firmware are more than enough for any geek :) And that's just the beginning, as you can do lots of things with python! Maybe I can add some media player to the web interface in the future! :) Anyway, this firmware is GREAT. Thanks for your outstanding work, it's amazing... you rock :punk :punk

So when my drive gets here I'll try to follow the instructions and install the firmware. I've read the other two threads, so I have an idea of the problems I'll be facing, and hopefully I'll solve them.

"Cut the crap, you're talking too much"
Ok, ok, I'll be back in a few days either posting the results of my installation or asking for help.

Cheers!
Tomàs

Hi

I know this is not the place to write this, but I can't post in viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1271, so hopefully someone will move this to the appropiate place.

I want to install fvdw in my cloudbox, but I can't even unzip the files :dry Just downloaded from the post below, and this is the result
Code: Select all
[user@server lacie]$ 7z x ../fvdw-sl-console-version-5-2.zip.001

[user@server lacie]$

But the rest of zip files had no problem:

  inflating: xfvdw-sl-15-0-cloudbox-28sep2013.bin
[user@server lacie]$

Can someone if my md5sum is correct? If so, what am I doing wrong? Any hint?

Hi ersiko,

Indeed, there was an issue with the attached files.
Two months ago we needed to restore several attached files and we made a small error with their file extension.

The current attached files are a zip file split in four files and we added an useless "zip" extension... I renamed the attached files and checked them.

So with your downloaded files remove the extension 'zip' and use for example 7z to extract the console to a new folder.

Warning : I noted that you tried to unzip it on a linux system... Remember that the fvdw-sl console runs only on a windows OS.

I still can't unzip those files :sob

I just downloaded this file
download/file.php?id=2379

from this post
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1476

Can anyone confirm the md5sum?
[user@server Downloads]$ md5sum xfvdw-sl-15-0-cloudbox-28sep2013.zip
f80e407e7ca52867f9604bdedf6d14da xfvdw-sl-15-0-cloudbox-28sep2013.zip

Just to confirm I downloaded the file correctly. Because I can't unzip it

[user@server Downloads]$ 7z x xfvdw-sl-15-0-cloudbox-28sep2013.zip

7-Zip [64] 9.20 Copyright (c) 1999-2010 Igor Pavlov 2010-11-18

Processing archive: xfvdw-sl-15-0-cloudbox-28sep2013.zip

Yes, it's a linux, but a zip is a zip, should be the same anywhere. I tried in windows with the same result.

Can anyone check if you got the same error? And some checksum of the file to confirm we have the same one?
