Hi

I've just acquired a Lacie Cloudbox.

It looks like it is the same as a Network Space v2 Classic, with the exception it has no USB ports and it is clocked at 1GHz.

I have the 3TB version with a seagate barracuda drive - not sure if this is good or not. Any experiences with these drives?

Anyway, I am interested in swapping out the lacie firmware for the fvdw firmware.

I also own a Network Space 2, and having previously used clunc I am interested in using this to install fvdw's firmware. Basically clunc allows you to boot the device over the network and remotely load a kernel and it also means you don't have to void the warranty.

I will give clunc a go and report back.

Good news. The cloudbox (v2 not to be confused with the 100GB released a year or two ago), supports clunc.

I've still got the lacie firmware running at the minute, and compared to the Network Space v2 this box is considerably quicker at loading the web interface. Looks promising.

No excessive hard drive noise either!

Yes I have a test kernel based on linux 3.9.5 in a standalone version in which I have compiled a setup for the the Lacie cloudbox (also know as familybox) the white one so with the faster processor.
I looked on the internet but the Soc it uses is a 88F6702 board. Thats not the same as the nwsp2 classic. That has a 88F6281. Also the cloudbox has a 1 Ghz processor while the nwsp has a 800 mHz one. (probably the reason for faster response) Indeed RAM amount is the same 256 MB If that works. Because of the different board it also needs a different setup file in the kernel then the nwsp2 (That one also has two different version the classic and the Lite). However with some effort I was able to extract the necessary info from the lacie GPl code and made a setup file for the cloudbox. The kernel compiled fine but thats no guarantee it will run. I will post it by pm this evening to you to test it.

Hi rimoth, check you pm box I ahve sent you a test kernel.

It is a standalone version, meaning it has a root file system build in that will let it run from ram
You can uplaod it and starting it using the fvdw-sl console, choose action load and start standalone kernel.
But first
switch of your cloudbox
unpack the kernel in the zip file attached and put it in the tftp directory used by the fvdw-sl console (it is in the folder were you installed the fvdw-sl console)
When loading the standalone kernel answer yes on the question of you have a nwsp2 or 5big2 or 2big2
Then select the the kernel in the tftp folder window that pops ups
switch on the cloudbox. The fvdw-sl console should automatic upload the kernel and start a telnet window to make contact.

When you can connect login and give command dmesg and post output on the forum to see if we have problems that needs to be addressed or not

It is a Linux 3.9.5 kernel...

and loading and starting the kernel will not affect the dtat onyour disk, unless you do some stupid commands after connecting to it ;)

this driver is needed for the leds and it is based on nwsp lite, I copied that from old Lacie gpl code but someting is not correct there. Need to check if a newer version available of this driver. Need to have a closer look.

It reports itself as being a 88F6281 board and not a 88F6192 (=nwsp2-lite or 88F6702 which is the real socket inside)

These errors take the kernel long to boot almost 1 minute and thats why telnet times out. Normally boot should be finished with standalone kernel in 12 to 20 seconds. But for a first shot it is not bad.. :mrgreen:

It's a shame there are more differences with the nwsp2, than anticipated.

I'll need to verify this. When I went to turn off the nas after loading the standalone kernel the led was on for sure, but I can't be sure if it was flashing or not. Also by that time I had typed 'halt' and 'exit' as a poor attempt to power down the device.

why is sda9 and 10 missing ? (Those should be there when it is a Lacie partition table)
Or did you already setup the disk in other structure ?

Lacie may have dropped sda10 as there is no longer a MAX version supporting multiple drives and raid.

Also sda9 was used for snapshots, again perhaps Lacie have changed the way in which updates work.

I haven't touched the structure yet, but I will check to ensure the current lacie firmware still runs OK and check dmesg again.
