Problem installing in new formatted hard drive

Problem installing in new formatted hard drive

Postby usuario » Sun Nov 24, 2024 9:03 pm

Hello,

My hard drive failed, and I had to format it. Now I'm trying to reinstall, but the u-boot gets stuck at:

waiting for u-boot

I tried following this link: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2645, but it didn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

what is the setup of your Lan? Do you use a router with dhcp server active?

Yes, I have a router with DHCP but I have reserved IP in DHCP server so it would be always the same, before format unit it worked fine.

you have to use automatic ip assignment otherwise uboot will not detect the signal from fvdw-sl console
Also it is recommended to use 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.0.xxx as ip pool

thanks, seems that works,

For Lacie cloudbox and this formatted HD, what would be the options to choose from installer? I do not see special instructions for this scenario

I have tried option "install fvdw-sl firmware" and it executes steps 0-6, but when it tries to connect via telnet I receive a timeout

I have also read doc about problems with telnet and I have tried standalone server also (i think uimage is kirkwood)

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Kind regards,

you must use kirkwood standalone kernel.
And leave all default settings unchanged in fvdw-sl console regarding ip for pc and cloudbox. Sometimes you get a timeout when internal disk takes too long to start up.
Then you can try to use to connect manually using drop down menu of the telnet program.

ps what are the default ip's if your pc and nas as shown in the fvdw-sk console?

I have used UIMAGE-3142-KIRKWOOD-171-standalone as image, there is another one in tft/firmware folder called UIMAGE-414133-KIRKWOOD-5, but seems it does not work.

During process I have accepted several questions regarding format hard drive using default values (I do not know if I should change them) and seems it has finished.

But during reboot I do not find the unit, I have tried to repeat installation but now I receive an error like "sda not found" (same error I had before trying to install)

fdisk: can't open '/dev/sda': No such device or address
diskid=none

There was an error detecting device sda, this device is required to install firmware.
Installer will exit

Does it seem hard drive is wrong?

Kind regards,

there can be two reasons, your harddisk is defective or the power supply of the cloudbox has a problem and is not capable to spin up the disk. You should hear the disk spin up when the cloudbox is powered on. But most likely it is a disk problem.
