On version 18.x, when a new samba version is available, there's an install button in the tab AFP/samba server of the system setup menu.
Of course your Nas must have an internet access.

I have version 18.2 and as for internet access I did not have the gateway configured.
Once the gateway is configured, in the "AFP / Samba server" tab I see a button to update, but when I click I get an error message that you can see in the attached screenshot.
