Move from Cloudbox 2TB to new Cloudbox with 3TB

Move from Cloudbox 2TB to new Cloudbox with 3TB

Postby Benaslan » Sat Mar 26, 2016 2:11 pm

Hey guys,

I am successfully using fvdw 16.1.1 on my 2tb lacie. About a moth ago I nearly sold it as it didn't fulfill my needs anymore in terms of functionality, speed and interface.
Now I am very happy - except one thing: storage!

I want to copy all settings including shares and their data to another lacie with 3TB with original firmware.
Of course the other 3tb lacie will be updated to fvdw

My question is: whats the best and fastest way to do all that?

:dontknow

The easiest would be using the backup feature (rsync). It will run in the background.

In the backup menu you can add external shares.

This for your shares, what settings do you want to copy? The fvdw-sl firmware settings are stored in a database that can be copied but not straight forward, also the database is subject to change. Restoring an old database might cause problems.

Sorry for late reply but with easter the family comes first ;)

Okay, thats kinda complicated.
Can you do a step-by-step tutorial on how to transfer all shares to another cloudbox?
I'd like to do a full copy of everything as I'm moving from one cloudbox to another since the new one has 3TB of storage.
I am a pro user I'd say, but never had to do a rsync!

Hi Benaslan,

You just need to use the backup menu from the firmware web-interface:
- Create before some shares where you want to copy the data of your other nas.
- from the backup menu, you ask to add remote shares of your other nas.

Please to note:
- laptop, cloudbox and the other nas must have the same workgroup.
- if the other nas is not listed in the remote hosts list, do "update the remote host lists"

Oh okay, thats simple.

What about Firmware Settings? Is there a way to save auf restore?
Remember that The new one has a 3TB hdd, so another Partition table

Okay, so I did manage to create a remote share and do a full backup.
Now it's been running for 1d 14h and only transferred like 200GB :(
I tried to use NFS after activating NFS on each share, but the didn't show up unfortunately, so I used smb

Any idea why its so slow?

UPDATE: found out NFS Server wasn't even installed. I'll try that first

NFS works much better! Nearly 2TB of data in about 30 hours - seems okay to me!
