Version SMB

I have always used the AFP protocol to communicate between my Mac and the LaCie5Big2, but it is starting to cause problems with folders with many files.
I tried using SMB and it seems that things have improved, but from a check with the "smbutil statshares -a" command I saw that the connection takes place in SMB_1
Is this the largest version of SMB on the LaCie 5?
Can an upgrade be done?
