Cannot connect to 5big Network 2

Bought a functional 5bN2 but the seller removed the original hard disks because of privacy.
I filled the trays with 5x Seagate ST2000DM001. After that I did a reset of the box to factory default as instructed by LaCie.
Linked it up to a router, connected my MacBook Pro to the router and started LaCie Network Assistant. But Network Assistant does not detect the box. ! Started a Recovery action with Network Assistant that began promising but after about 10 minutes stopped with the warning "unable to locate and recover the LaCie network device".

I have no idea what's going on. Could installing the free firmware fvdw-sl work without "damaging" the 5bN2?
And does the console app work on a VMWare Fusion Windows VM on my Mac.

Any reaction/ideas appreciated.

We added you to the donators group and granted access to addons

I have a 5big2 myself and our firmware can be installed without damaging the device. It has more features than the original lacie firmware. If install works using VM on your Mac, just try. Important is that you have access via VM to your network card and that there is only one network card active. I cannot test as I don't have a Mac.

tried to install firmware but telnet does not accept the given username!
What is going wrong?
