Hey All,
I have basically a mix of 1 and 2TB discs in my 5big2 in one big ol' raid and I'd like to use more of each. I successfully added a 5th disc recently with the tools, would that work if I removed a drive, rebuilt, rinse, repeat, until all 1TB drives are out and replaced with 2TB after each step, then the final step would do the extend raid task like when I added my 5th disc? Would that work?

Hi andjohn
if I understand what you want to do :
- currently you have a raid5 with 5 disks but not with the same size (1TB or 2TB)
- you want to replace the 1TB disks by new 2TB disks
So I assume you have the last version 17.0 with the last patch (required to fix an issue when you extend fs on a raid)
You can replace these disks safely by this way :
- go to the "edit volume menu" (from disk setup menu and click on the your raid volume name)
- click on the link "safely remove" of a 1Tb component
- stop the nas
- replace this disk by a new 2Tb
- restart the nas
- on the "disks setup " menu and click on "Initialize Hard Disks and Volumes" (then select the new disk to format it)
- go again to the "edit volume menu"
- add safely the new formatted disk
- wait until the recovery step is ended
So only when your raid has a clean status, repeat the sequence to replace another disk.
Note : extend fs on the raid at each disks replacing is useless, do it only when all raid component size is 2TB

Nice, that's what I was thinking would work too. Excellent job on the raid tools btw, they worked flawlessly! When I extended to the 5th disc, it just worked great and I didn't even have to look around for how to do it, it was obvious.
So, I'll extend in that manner when I need more space. Jocko, do you have a Bitcoin cash wallet? I want to tip you some money.

Hey Jocko,
Sorry, I don't really use paypal.
Take a look at this:
https://www.bitcoin.com/info/what-is-bitcoin-cashBasically, Bitcoin Cash is a peer-to-peer cash system that is secure, fast and incredibly cheap to interact with. Basically, there's no such thing as chargebacks, or anything like that, and the current minimum fee to transact with it is less than a penny :)
So, if you want to take it, all you have to do is install the bitcoin.com wallet app on your iPhone or Android and then follow the instructions. When that's done, post your address on here and I'll tip you some!

1676.04 bits ($5 Canadian) Sent!
I'm sending you this because the RAID controls were so well made and it really made my life easier. I meant to replace my Big5Net2 with something else but I doubt I will now. It just works well and looks good too. Maybe eventually.
Enjoy!
