All shares gone - and a dead drive, too

I didn't know whether to put this in as a new topic (plus I'm new here), so my main question is here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1574&start=10#p15572
However, since my problem begun as "all shares gone", and thanks to troubleshooting, one of the drives in my 5Big Network 2 is now dead-ish, I was just wondering whether I could just go and buy a new drive, screw it into the frame and install it into the Network chassis? Will that somehow affect my RAID resurrection I'm about to try? I think yes, it might.
There's not much about the drive replacement in the original User Manual - actually, the only mention I noticed was "always contact LaCie to replace a damaged drive in your RAID" or similar. I'd rather grab a good drive instead and install it myself without paying premium for cheapo stuff.
