There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

For the rest it seems you have done everything right
The ticking sound may indicate a disk problem.
What you could do is load the standalone kernel using fvdw-sl console, connect with telnet and mount sda7 and check the boot.log file. Maybe this gives info if the nas has performed firmware boot or not and if it has boot why it failed.
So in telnet client
- Code: Select all
mkdir /sda7
mount /dev/sda7 /sda7
cd /sda7
cat boot.log
Please to note the related daemon used to detect the nas starts with a delay after a rebooting (around 90''). This to be sure the nas got an Ip lease from the dhcp service on your LAN (in the other case the daemon will abort)Then i give reboot -f and then no way :dontknow to find the ip, also with fvdw-sl-assistant. no nas found.

So you need to wait around this time and to scan again the lan with fvdw-sl assistant

Are you sure that there is nothing more?
If there are no lines after starting php based based setup routines then the only thing I can think off is dat the firmware package was corrupt when writing it to disk. Normally a corrupted image archive should fail to extract.
If I remember well you had a similar problem in the past with downloading large files. We should compare md5sum of the firmware image. I am not at home right now but will come back to you later.
What you could do in the meantime is use the action write firmware image of the fvdw-sl console and write the firmware image again to sda7.
Be sure to use a wired connecting between your pc and your lan.
