Hi,

I have just got my first NAS equipment, and it is a LaCie Network Space 2 2tb.

I've plug it in to my network and installed the LaCie software in my PC, and all worked great. I could enter in the dashboard, create the USB share with 100gb and formatted. The PC recognizes the 3 shares, OpenShare, USBShare and the Admin Share.

BUT, like my PC is connected by wireless USB and the network in it is very slow, I tried to connect the NS2 directly via USB to get some big files. The PC recognized as a 16mb drive. If I use the network directly in the PC it does not recognize.

I Bring it to my work to see if in another PC it could work, but the same here. Windows only shows a 16mb partition and ask to format it. In my work PC I manage to use it by LAN Cable. Could acess the folders by network, and all worked fine. Then I try to connect the USB cable, while it was connected by LAN, and same thing. Windows just recognized as 16mb partition and asked to format. In the network folder the USBShare desapeared when I connected the LAN, as mentioned in the manual... so, it suposed to be working =/

In the dashboard shows me that the USBPartition is there, and with 100gb. =/

Should I try this fw? It is very important to me that the USB work.

Thanks

Hi

I never tried a 100 GB usb share but our firmware supports use of back side usb port and using it as usb disk
The maximum size of the usb share you can make in our firmware is 100 GB
(ps creating it will take considerable time !)

So I guess the only way to see if it works is try it out.

ps if you can connect via LAN to the nwsp2 then using an usb share is not adding much value to my opinion then it is easier just to use the normal shared folders (samba, ftp, nfs)
The transfer speed when using it as usb device will not be much higher then transferring via samba (assuming you use gigabit LAN)

actually, my TV has only USB, and not LAN, so, I want to use it for this too. and my LAN is quite slow, this is why I need an USB drive working, because of some kind of files and sizes.

why do you say that it will take a considerable time to create an USB Share? =/ I tought that it could be like the original one this feature.

to create a disk image of 100GB and format it takes time, about 3/4 hour

also it will be formatted in FAT32 as that is a format that both Linux and windows can read (and most TV's)
