V17 firsts impressions

Hi!

I did try fvdw V17 in the past few days. I must say i'm impressed! I use quite a lot of servers on it (transmission , dlna , webdav, ) using some other manually installed (WordPress)

Web admin page is super snappy, WordPress image uploads (lybrary ) are 10 times faster, AFP uploads are faster.

I was using kernel 4.6.6 on 16.1 and for some reason , V17 is still faster. I also did an upgrade AND afteward a full clean install and I must say , a clean install is the way to go. The upgrade did'nt update sda7 (user data) partition to ext4 but a clean install is now on ext4. Having a ssd , I'll try later to use the trim fonctionnality.

I would like to thanks Jocko and FVDW for thos new release!

Hi raidsm

Thank you so much for your feedbacks.

Indeed on version 17.0 we worked to improve the firmware performances.

upgrade the firmware does not change the fs on the user data partition.
But you can do it without making a first install.

Maybe it is no evident to find how to do it and load the edit volume menu (as the link was disabled since many versions)
So:
- load the main disk menu
- click on the volume name
- and for a single volume, you have the following features:
* rename the volume
* format the volume ( with data lost)
* convert the current fs to ext4

Hi, is it necessary to clean all the HD before update from 16 to 17 release or is it possible to update it without needing to clean disk?
Thanks

Hi leone101,

There is no need to clean your HD to update from version 16.1 to 17.0 (Please to note you can not update the firmware from version 16.0 to 17.0 as you need to install before a patch which is available only for version 16.1)

This topic is related to raidsm's tries to use ext4 on the partition data instead of ext3.

With version 17.0, you can:
- reset the disk and select as fs on the data volume ext4. (of course you will lose your data on the disk in this case)
- convert the current fs (ext3) to ext4 without losing the data.
