(BT)Sync vs Synthing

(BT)Sync vs Synthing

Postby firwareslut » Sat Mar 28, 2015 8:24 am

With the current state of Sync (BtSync) I am considering scrapping using it altogether. The project seems really messy and after some automatic upgrades on my client machines to the new v2.0 i've no idea what's what anymore :D The client on my phone no longer works properly either.

Has anyone any experience of Syncthing? I have tested it locally on two machines and it works but it also has its flaws. I hate having to restart the program after every damn change (come on! its 2015 :sob ) and the syncing of devices rather than folders is more work and less intuitive than Sync. I haven't had the chance to test remove syncing yet but it looks harder work than Sync.

why don't you revert back to the old version ? seems the newer btsync versions are also not free anymore

Jocko recently made the addon owncloud, maybe thats an alternative you could consider

Will check out owncloud! I removed Syncthing...it's not quite ready for a regular consumer i think. The windows version doesnt even have an isntall package or service version.

Hi guys, I'm now considering using the NAS for synching files again, after a bad experience with BTSync. How is it going with OwnCloud, firwareslut did you tried it?
Are you happy with it?

In addition, is it way too heavy for NSP2?

Thanks,
MDI

Hi mdi,

This is my opinion.

btsync is an handy service to synchronize quickly any folder but there is no control to reverse a wrong action.

owncloud has more features and can be useful if you want to share many data from several external sources (ftp, samba,...) but with nwsp2 its webgui is not fast. As you can also use owncloud on other host, I advise to use owncloud webgui with your nas only to set owncloud (data, user account, ...)
