Is LaCie data retained if fvdw installed

Apologies for what may be a silly question but I have searched the forums and not been able to find an answer to my question.

I am trying to recover the data from a LaCie Network Space 2 that has 'stopped responding'.
It powers up ok but the blue LED just keeps flashing.
Other posts suggest this is because of their dodgy OS.
The disk looks OK (using Windows Disk manager) but obviously Windows can't read the files.

I have experimented installing the fdvw onto a spare disk before I attempt anything on the one with the live data and have mostly been successful but my overriding question is:
If I install the firmware image to disk (using fvdw-sl-console), does it retain the existing data files that were written using the LaCie OS?
or are they all lost?

As I say, apologies if this is a daft question!

:thumbup This is a good way when we try something new.

As fvdw-sl uses a new partition table, you lose your data files.

So, you have two choices:
- use fvdw-sl-console to get a telnet access and then search what it is wrong
- backup your data files: unplug your disk from nwsp2 platform and plug the disk on a linux/unix host (or use a virtual linux host). After you can install our firmware.

Thanks very much for a quick reply to my question - and giving me the answer I needed.

Although I could run the telnet session (& did so quite often yesterday!), I wouldn't know what sort of 'problem' to lok for regarding the LaCie files.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of Linux is limited and trying to mount a USB-caddy is beyond me at the moment although I am still trying!

Thanks for your help so far!
