NS2 Lite new HDD Windows setup failing :(

Hi there.

I have here a Network Space 2 that turns out to be the Lite version.

Now i removed the HDD and formatted it long ago, but now i want to put my 1tb WD Green HDD into the Lacie and use the fvdw-sl firmware.

currently i am trying to use the fvdw-sl-console x64 downloaded straight from http://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1271

its all fine until the telnet client waits 12secs and i'm supposed to log into the NAS, at this point it says 'Connection to 192.168.1.252/telnet timed out' and i can never establish the telnet connection/login.

have been trying for a couple of weeks now to accomplish this, but cannot get any further.. :/

Kind and enthusiastic regards.. :)

what is the ip range that your network is using ? and did you allow your firewall to let telnet client make contact ?

well i have tried with both connected to the router, with no firewall running at all and the dhcp range from 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254 and the computer having a static LAN ip of 192.168.1.10.

I have also tried without the router, just connecting the NAS and computer via crossover whilst again assigning the computer with a static ip of 192.168.1.10 and fudging the other settings.

I have no software/hardware firewalls or antivirus running.

Ive been attempting to make them communicate in as many ways as i can come up with . :)

Thanks for the attention :thumbup :-D

Hmmmmm. doubt in my mind.... :O

well it came as a 2tb and has the markings

LACIE
NI_IS ASTON CR
REV C

on the 'blackish' pcb.

it features a Gigabit ethernet, 2 USB (in&out) and a single piece power cable, aswell as the power button being a clicky push sw as opposed to an old school toggle.

ha, and after that, heres the same page that i bought it from (2 years ago)

Amazon

Also it was the 'DESIGN BY NEIL POULTON' version

better too much evidence, than not enough. :bananadance

well based on that info it should be a nwsp2.

Use a wired connection

when the you choose the action load standalone kernel in the fvdw-sl console in the ip address vor nas it should mention 192.168.1.252 in the white box,
right next to it the ip address of your pC will be mentioned, this should have same start octes 192.168.1.

Is there no other device in your LAN using IP 192.168.1.252 ?

Did you choose the kernel with "standalone in the name (UIMAGE-395-NWSP2CL-179-standalone) ?

When the telnet client fails, did you try to reconnect using the connect button in the telnet client ? Sometimes the waiting time of 12 seconds is not enough if there are problems with loading drivers.

Also you could look in dhcp list of your router if has gotten a dynamic ip address.
In principle the standalone kernel assigns itself 3 ip addresses, of which 2 static (192.168.0.252 and 192.168.1.252) and a dynamic one.

With opening a cmd (command) window in windows you could try the ping command to see if the nas is detectable on the nas
