Hi there,

I'm really intereset in this project and want to play with a Lacie Network Space 2 i have here.
There is nothing on that drive, so i can erase it completly.

I'v try to follow every step to install custom firmware without success.
My first problem was about network stuff. I think that withou a HP 24 ports switch, my WIndows 7 PC et Lacie can't talk together. NOw i fix this using ip 192.168.1.252 for HDD and 192.168.1.250 for my windows machine.
Now i can communicate using U-boot in fvdw-sl-console (great tool). I can access Marvell >>
Download kernel using tfp server, and finally boot the kernel with "bootm" command.

The problem is that it's freeze at line
ata2: SATA link down
Freeing init memory: 2640k

staying there forever :-(

did you use the fvdw install firmware option of the fvdwl-sl console to install the firmware ? or how did you install the fvdw-sl firmware ?

From what you describe I conclude that you started an external kernel but that has no use if you did not install the firmware first

So nobody can help?
Maybe, there is not enough information in my post ?

Let's add some.

First, i found the problem i got about network. If you have VirtualBox install, the VirtualHost seem to interfere with the netcat (u-boot) stuff.
So DISABLE it and the process on clunc will work perfectly.

But i'm still stuck here (same as first post)
Please look at the file attach and try to understand what is happening.

Or any other tutorial about uploading a custom firmware to my lacie

In fact, i'v try couple of thing

- install fvdw-firmware
with that option it freeze and the telnet section (u-boot screen close)

but with just u-boot option, i'v discover about the "freeing memory" stuff...

maybe i forgot something in the path :-(

I'v sccessfully open up the case and change de HDD from the orginal 1tb Hitachi to a Western 500mb.

same thing happen when i boot up the u-boot program

Is there still somewhere a step by step howto for installing custom firmware from a Linux machine ?

I'm installing a brand new Ubuntu 14.0x box now.
I can use it to perform the operation.

I'v just manage to install fvdw 11.0 (on my orginal Hitachi 1tb drive)
Lots of work, but i think i forgot nothing.

Now...
i lost ping of my lacie nsp2
i'm still enable to run u-boot (freeze at the same place)

so it's worst that at the beginning :-(
did i brick my LaCie drive ?

any help ?

Finally i got success installing fvdw-sl firmware version 11-0

I don't know why but it just change IP from DHCP.

Now i'm in the web-interface of 11-0, but it seem that from there we cannot update to 15.x ?
True ?

by the way, if i still try with fvdw-console (windows), telnet is not working (timeout) and u-boot flash freeze at "Freeing init memory" (see picture above)
it's look like the IP (eth) never come up :-(

Without the help of anybody here (just reading and trying)

I'm now running : fvdw-sl firmware version 15-2 !!

Next step maybe, install a 4TB HDD, is that possible ?

This probably is because you did not load the standalone kernel but the normal kernel.


You can use a 4TB disk if you boot loader supports GPT partitions. The nwsp2 lite should have this support. The nwsp2 classic with the old bootloader not. In that case you need to write an updated u-boot to flash. You can dot hat with the fvdw-sl console
BUT CE CAREFUL. This not without risk.
If you do something wrong and writing to flash fails then this action can brick your nwsp2, but many have succeeded including myself

In any case if you go that route always use a wired connection between nas, router and pc (wireless is not reliable enough!) and no virtual machines.

Flashing u-boot is at own risk (read the help text)
