I have been testing the WOL standby mode and the NAS switches off but doesn't wake up again. I presume the function is that it will respond to the web address or any attempt to mount the NAS using cifs in linux?
I have a WD 2gb green in there.

you must sent a "magic packet" to wake it up from WOL

I can confirm that it works with the magic packet

yeah it does...unfortunately, sometimes the disc whirls up after the shutdown (immediately) and then stays spinning. It doesn't do this normally.

Hi firwareslut,
You are right, sometimes the disks doesn't spin down.
It is amazing because the script written by fvdw tries to do it several times after the standby command.
I don't think that this is caused by the disk type because I have several Lacie NAS with different vendors and I get the same result.
So something prevents the disks from spinning down and not always... but what ?
