performance issue

performance issue

Postby moonshadow88 » Wed Apr 03, 2013 6:06 pm

Hi!

I have been using this GREAT firmware since version 11. Now I'm on version 14 and since then, the network speed has degradated a lot.

Until firmware 13 I was copying files from my computer to nas and viceversa at about 70MB (I have a gigabyte switch) and with the version 14, it onlye copies at 20MB tops:

Between computers (I have 3 and all wired at 1Gb) I can copy files at 70-80MB but all computers read/write to/from NAS at 20MB tops.

Where I can start looking for the issue?

Thanks in advance!

which server do you use for transfer, samba ?
Then it should not make a difference between 13.0 and 14.1 unless you use vpn server with bcrelay enabled, bcrelay is a big resources consumer, don't use if you don't need it (see also help tekst for using vpn).
If you do not use vpn then you could try to diable the all media servers and see if that helps. In 14.1 a new version of twonky is used.
Also the torrent client can be a reason if it has many connections

I also have a gigabit switch and never reach 70 MB, max is about 25 MB/s without using torrent client or media server
So for me the 20 Mb/s doesn't look abnormal, the 70 MB is very peculiar.

You could try the command "top" at linux command line to see what is using cpu time

Last you could install 13.0 again and see if it makes a difference

thank you for your early response.

I have only minidlna and transmission running (although trans is not downloading anything and minidlna is not streaming)

plain lan (no vpn) and computers are directly connected (same subnet not using a gateway).

seems samba server is using all cpu:

if you says it's ok, it's ok :)

thank you again!
