I upgraded to the new u-boot my nwsp2 classic.
Now I want to test if it works but I do not have a 3TB HDD yet.
So I thought to formatted in GPT mode the 1.5TB HDD that I have, but I need some guidance.
I will use "First time install package for fvdw-sl-11-0 on the lacie network space vs2 (nwsp2) classic version (256 MB RAM) and Lite version (128 MB RAM)".
For this I want to know:
1. if the following scheme is correct for formatting HDD (i will use GPARTED):
sda1 - 512 MB (ext3)
sda2 - 512 MB (ext3)
sda3 - 512 MB (ext3)
sda4 - 8 MB (unformatted)
sda5 - 768 MB (ext3)
sda6 - 8 MB (unformatted)
sda7 - 512 MB (ext3)
sda8 - rest of the disk (ext3)
2. if it's okay to use the kernel "UIMAGE-51-26394-NWSP2CL", which is made for nwsp2 lite.
After that I want to upgrade to "xfvdw-sl-14-20121223-0-nwsp2".
Is it right what I wrote before?
If not, how else can I test whether the new "u-boot" works with GPT partitions?
Thank you again for the time you use to do what you do.
It's great.

The partition table is ok Bozo (sda3 must get ID "swap" and does not need to be formatted), also you can use kernel 51which has gpt support, it is suitable for as well nwsp2 lite as classic

Unfortunately I had no time on Sundays, as I said, but I did today.
So I partitioned the HDD GPT mode, then I installed fvdw-11 and finally I did upgrade to fvdw-14.
Everything went smoothly.
I can not say anything other than this: You did a great job! :applause :applause :applause
I made all settings as they were before.
I got to do a test transfer large files via FTP and works perfectly.
In the coming days I will test the other, transmission, sftp .... etc..
I did this test with a 1.5TB HDD, but I suspect that there will be no problems with 3TB HDD.
If the new U-Boot can handle GPT formatted hard drives do not think that size can be a problem. Wrong somehow?
Now I have a question:
It is o.k. to keep the new format (GPT) HDD, or to return to the old system (MBR)?
Ask this question, because as I said earlier it is a 1.5TB HDD only.
I mean, can influence in any way, positive or negative, the new format?
Once again thank you for the work you do. :thumbup

and glad to hear that everything works as expected :punk
you can continue with GPT on the 1.5 TB disk there is no disadvantage

Thanks penru quick response.
I will continue with GPT if there is no disadvantage.
You said in other thread:
i asked lacie for a theGPL code of the versions used in the Lite, thats more recent code. They promised to publish it but until today it is not on the GPL ftp site of lacie yet. If they don't you can use my version it will do just fine to handle GPT formatted disks.
This version of u-boot is adapted by you. Right? I assumed that because of dmesg output:
root@fvdwsl-nwsp2:/ # dmesg | grep console
Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/sda7 ro reset=0 productType=ASTON_KW GPT fvdw vs80

yes it is the version adapted by me
if Lacie publish a more recent code I will use that but I am using my code now for two months and it works just fine

I have also installed the new U-BOOT, and I have succeeded installing the firmware in a 3 TB GPT partition. So I now have a 3 TB Network Space 2.
I have also tried with the original firmware. It works as well.
Thanks for this.
