Cloud services

Hi Lonas,

Or could I use a repository manager like apt-get or something?
you can not use this way.

So wait few days to do the add-on package with the missing modules.

It would be really awesome to have ownCloud running on the NAS, can't wait that long ;)
If you can not wait: use webdav feature which pretty makes the same things with a webdav client...

Hi Lonas,

So owncloud seems to run without issues on the nwsp2 but the owncloud gui is not fast.

Some changes must be done to work rightly (remote sync/ webdav). So the add-on will be available only for the next WE

Thanks Jocko, that sounds promising. GUI speed is not a big issue as long as syncing data works between my different devices. My main use case would be to access data through mobile apps and through the media server on the NWSP2, thus I probably only need the GUI to set up ownCloud once.

Could I manually install ownCloud already or are there too many bugs still?

Hi Lonas,

Please reread again our first rule...
1. Your developers are volunteers. They don't get paid for their services. In many cases they have donated both money, hardware, and much of their time to help this community. They do this as a hobby and generally gain enjoyment from this community. Do not harass them in any way.
You are a new member (2 days), thank you for being a little patient and for considering at the fair value our response after only 2 days (I do not know many professional sites that answer with this delay).

So, I just did a test package (send on your pm). Currently, another module is missing (infofile but owncloud can run without it)

There are two tar files.

- install the missing zip module :
save the file php_module-zip_04jun2014.tar anywhere you want (I assume in the share fvdw).
So in a putty window, give this command
Code: Select all
tar -xf /share/1000/fvdw/php_module-zip_04jun2014.tar -C /

-install the owncloud files :
check your addons environment(see: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=645#p3889)
save the file fvdw-sl_owncloud_04jun14.tar to the folder addons
In a putty window, give this command
Code: Select all
cd /share/1000/fvdw/addons
tar -xf fvdw-sl_owncloud_04jun14.tar

-set some owncloud settings to run with the fvdw-sl firmware :Still in a putty window, run the shell script
Code: Select all
/share/1000/fvdw/addons/owncloud-restore.sh

With these settings, an administrator is already created : login is admin (and pwd is cl1234). Of course you can change this later via the owncloud gui. The data folder (where the users files are saved) is created in the folder /share/1000/owncloud (to see them via the samba server you need to create a share with the same name) and don't change this path

Note: after a firmware upgrading, you need to run again owncloud-restore.sh to restore apache settings and some symlinks.

Note: remote accesses are working with https protocol

Please post here your feedback.

If it is ok, I will post the package on the addons forum (with the missing fileinfo module ;) )

And to load owncloud gui, you must use the url http://yournasname/owncloud. (of course you can change yournasname by your ddns)

I greatly appreciate your prompt response, thank you very much Jocko! This is definitely much quicker than most professional providers react (I speak from experience, just ask my telecom company or better not, you won't get a reply in less than one week ;) ).

Again, thanks a ton! I have to backup my stuff on the NWS2 first but I hope I will be able to do that this weekend, then I will upgrade and try it out.

Once I got it running (or not) I will post here of course, I would be glad if I could be of any help.

Hi!

I've been looking for something like this.
I have seen that there is a new tuturial, for ownCloud add-on.
Lonas, how's the solution working for you?
Hope to hear from you soon...

Hi Redleh,

It is done.

The add-on is available here.http://www.plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1941&p=15944#p15944

Please note that the owncloud web interface use many resources and its loading take time...

So use it only for setting your shared data, user accounts, etc. and use the owncloud program on your PC to manage data.

I thought the add-on would install the program on the NAS, and I could access my files by the browser away from home!
I thought that it was enough to let the NAS switched on to access my files, like a true Cloud.
I can not manage the files by browser, when I'm not home?
I have to leave the PC turned on in order to have access?

Cheers

Please, re-read my post...

I did not write that you can not access your files by the browser but that nwsp2 has not many resources and use directly owncloud web-interface is not very handy (you must wait :tapfoot between two clicks...)

I thought that it was enough to let the NAS switched on to access my files, like a true Cloud.
I can not manage the files by browser, when I'm not home?
I advise you to deepen the firmware features because you can already do it with webdav...
