I left the reset/format functionality running overnight and it went allright.
Code: Select all
NAS server in Setup Mode

(re-)Start the setup task :   Reset internal disk(s)
Started on:   12 August 2020, 20:45:38
Ended at:   12 August 2020, 21:15:07

Setup task reset.sh is now running
Found disk: sda(S2H7JD1ZA20706)
Format partition sda8 with file system ext4:
=>mke2fs 1.43.4 (31-Jan-2017)
Creating filesystem with 487653137 4k blocks and 121913344 inodes
Filesystem UUID: d7b7ae8f-ba1a-479c-b38d-a51a5862533d
Superblock backups stored on blocks:
32768, 98304, 163840, 229376, 294912, 819200, 884736, 1605632, 2654208,
4096000, 7962624, 11239424, 20480000, 23887872, 71663616, 78675968,
102400000, 214990848
Allocating group tables: done
Writing inode tables: done
Creating journal (262144 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done
=>Formatting sda8 succeeded
Update partition type on sda8: OK
Remove orphan shares: OK
Setup task reset.sh is ended

After this I restarted the NAS.

Looks good. Perhaps conclusions from all this hazzle could be that it was used hard disk and most probably it had that zfs_member thing there all the time. It was just very hard to get rid of.

Thank you for all your efforts.

Hi

The issue is now solved and indeed it allowed me to deepen several things.

What I do not understand is you are not the first LACIE user who installs our firmware on its nas. So this should happen at every time :scratch Maybe there was an issue when you have reset your disk... or not

To restore fully fw version you have to overwrite a patched file sent previously. So run
Code: Select all
mv /usr/share/setup/set_fs.org /usr/share/setup/set_fs

While I was searching about ZFS member problems (can't remember keywords I used in Google anymore), I think I saw something that mentioned that this ZFS is hard to get rid of. Could it be something that survives normal install format/mbr creation and it would still be recognized as a ZFS member. This is something I know very little about so I'm just quessing.

Anyway thank you for everything. I moved the set_fs back and I think the NAS is now fully functional.
