about usb disk
If you have a usb disk formatted in fat32 connect it to your nas.
It should be visible as sdb1
mount it

mkdir /sdb1
mount /dev/sdb1 /sdb1


Now you can use sdb1 folder to copy the folders containing your files (linux cp command)

As I suspected the USB Drive is formatted as NTFS and has a bunch on data on it.

The best outcome will be for me to get the access back to the Networkshare2 via Windows Explorer - failing that I will have to copy the files out and then check if they are all good before installing your firmware.
