Cron job to restart?

Cron job to restart?

Postby jpjpjp » Sat Nov 21, 2015 3:01 pm

Hi, is it possible with the scheduler to restart the NAS? I see lots of options to start/stop various processes or turn off the device but none for restart. I'd love to be able to schedule the same functionality that I get from the "NAS Restart" button in the console.

Why? Well I've found that logins tend to fail from my Windows machine backups after a few days with this type of error:

[ERROR] "\\LACIE-NS2-FVDW" is not accessible using the credentials entered in the profile settings. The network path was not found.

If I restart the NAS, and run the same software I get this result:

Connecting to "\\LACIE-NS2-FVDW" with user "FamilyLaptop" ... Connected.

There may be a deeper problem to debug here, but I'd be happy to just schedule a daily restart.

Thanks!

I am sorry jpjpjp but currently this option is not available.

if your NAS is not available after a time that would mean you have an issue with your LAN settings (maybe to deepen on the dhcp server side : IP reallocates after 24hours ?) Do you check if the NAS has still the same IP ?

But there is a fake way since version 16.1:
- in "Schedule servers menu", select the option "Nas Standby and auto wake-up" which allows to set a reboot after a selected time. In your case, you may plan a reboot for night time.

Thanks for the quick reply Jocko. You asked:

Yes, the IP address is the same an i never have a problem accessing it via the web interface. I'm fairly certain that the IP address is constant (it is configured as a manual IP address in the LAN Setup tab). My only issue is that windows mounts fail with the username/password credentials that I have configured sometimes after the NAS has been up for a period of time (ie: days or weeks). Interestingly my static mounts still work when this occurs but I can't make any new ones.

A reboot of the router always fixes this problem.
