Public access
If set to public the share will be accessible for all users, if you choose this

with a password.
In that case a user with same name as the share will be created. To access the
public share when it is protected you will prompted for username and password,
use the sharename as username and password you have set. Do not define a
protected public share with same name as an existing user, this will give a
conflict for obvious reasons

To access the private share the user will be prompted for their username and

You can set "private" for attached USB drives and assign read write rights per
user
Be aware that you need to enable also the read/write driver for ntfs in the disk
menu to be able to write to ntfs disks
The assigned read/write rights in privat folders is applicable for the samba and
FTP server (FTP access must be set).
See help in user settings menu regarding FTP access
Problems with MS Windows to access a private share
If you have logged in to a private share via a windows computer using explorer
and try to access another privat share that needs a different username then this
may fail as explorer keeps using the first name and password you entered. To
clear this setting click "extra" in the menu bar of explorer and choose
disconnect network connection
Delete any connection you may see in the window that opens, after this you
should be able to access a share using a new username and password

(*) Some shares are created and required for the functioning of several daemons like the torrent clients or the media servers and they are no use for the sharing of files on your LAN.
