trying to install version 11

I think we are running out of options :dontknow

maybe the program gdisk is an option you can try instead of gparted http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/

Seems we only can make it work if we could restore the 512 Byte logical sector size...

I will try it, I will try to re-format the disk, and I will begin from scratch, to see what happens.
but checking the options of gdisk, I can not see the way to restore the 512 byte logical sector size.... I will try to re-format the disk in GPT, hopefully I will get that.
Thanks!

I found this link which describes trials of a person to format an advanced re-format disk from 4096 to 512 Bytes sectors.

Apparently he did it on a windows machine and plugged it in Linux...I don't know if it will work on your disk as well

Thanks! I will give that a try. I have just formatted the disk again with gdisk and repeated the entire process (the pdf, but including your pm, formatting the sdb1,2 and 7 and copying there the tar file + copying the UIMAGE-26394-NWSP2CL-51 in sdb6), and still blue and red blinking....
however, there is something strange. here you are what gdisk -l /dev/sdb brings:
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.1

Partition table scan:
MBR: protective
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
Disk /dev/sdb: 488378646 sectors, 1.8 TiB
Logical sector size: 4096 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): 713E5C09-D5FE-C107-5639-DB84896C1E65
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 6, last usable sector is 488378640
Partitions will be aligned on 256-sector boundaries
Total free space is 628 sectors (2.5 MiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
1 256 129023 503.0 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
2 129024 257791 503.0 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
3 257792 386559 503.0 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
4 386560 402624 62.8 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
5 402688 603328 783.8 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
6 603392 619393 62.5 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
7 619520 748161 502.5 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
8 748288 488378640 1.8 TiB 8300 Linux filesystem

as you can see, the code of partition 3 is 8300 and it should be 8200 linux/swap, right?
Yet, if I go to GPARTED, the attached is what it shows, apparently correct....
anyway, before trying what you proposed, how can I change the code 83 by 82?
Thanks again!!!

the make swap should set it correctly, but it will not be the reason why the disk is not readable for the nwsp2. In case the swap doesn't work then it will only give problems when there is no memory anymore to load programs. In that case a program not in use is swapped from system memory to the swap on disk.

I can imagine that you give, up, of course you could consider to use another HDD that has logical sector size of 512 Bytes ;)

hi there,
after a lot of research, i think i got the solution to the 4k sectors!!
as said in my previous posts, when executing fdisk -l i got sectors of 4K instead of the usual 512kb. i was connecting the hdd to a laptop through the usb port.
i have connected it to a "normal" pc straight to the motherboard port, and surprise, the fdisk reported sectors of 512kb!!
so, i just reformatted the disk with gparted to MBR and followed your instructions, and it works!!
however, i have now a problem, i can not see the lacie nw2 in my (windows7).... therefore i can not copy files or folders....
i have read in a previous post that this can be due to something related to the workgroup configuration, but i see nothing wrong in the computer.... how can i check that in the new firmware menu?
i know it is there, as i have activated the minidlna server and the computer and the tv get it.
also, i can not enter via putty..... the pass should be giveit2me, and the user admin-nas?
thanks for your help

About workgroup, you must have the same name in each device of your LAN. You can change the workgroup set in the nas database with the LAN menu. I don't remember in wich version we fix a small malfunction with the case, so you must use the upper case.

About putty, if you don't change the password, the login is "admin" with the versions 11.0 and 12.x and only "admin-nas" with 13.0. The password is the same for each version : "giveit2me"

Thats not correct, the username for putty (ssh access) is "root" (without the quotes) and default password "giveit2me"

the username mentioned by Jocko is for the web interface :snicker
