I'm an owner of two NAS SPD8020. Is there a benefit to upgrade to Lacie VS2 ? What are the advantages for this NAS ?

Hi wd9895

the advantages are, a processors that is twice as fast (800 mHz iso 400) and much more RAM (256 MB iso 16)
Be careful there are two versions of the nwsp2 on the market, the normal one with 256 MB and a "lite" version with 128 MB RAM, see nwsp2 topic how to see the difference.

As a result of the faster processor and more RAM the up and download speeds are much higher (when you have a gigabit LAN) and more applications can run at the same time, or more user can use it at same time.
In future upgrades we can now add more memory intensive features, for instance like a mail server or webcam guard

The nwsp2 doesn't have a fan so its more quite but can run pretty hot what might affect lifetime. I have put a WD green 2 TB disk in it that runs at 5700 rpm to minimize heat generation and have put the thing on its side so that the heat can easie go out of the box
