SMBv1

Postby wd9895 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 9:22 am

Hi all,

is it possible to disable SMBv1 protocol in my home network and use SMBv2 or 3 in cooperation with the NAS firmware provided here ?
Will the Lacie NAS still be accessible by Win7 and 10 ?

Hi wd9895,

I understand why you asked this but we keep smbv1 for compatibility with XP but we can add an option to disable this protocol version as it is useless for you.

Attached an apply to detect if there are some smbv1 vulnerabilities on your LAN.

Note: currently fvdw-sl does not support smbv3. We plan to do some checks to see if we can implement a newer samba version without impacting I/O speed

Thanks Jocko.
The check went fine and I learned that my FritzBox also is on SMBv1 and currently no updates in sight.
So the situation remains a bit weak.

Today Windows10 comes without SMB1 support. This is the reason why the fvdw NAS systems are not visible in the Explorer network section.

You have to disable SMB2 and/or SMB3 protocol and to enable SMB1 support to make the fvdw NAS systems visible again in the Explorer network section.
=> Systemsteuerung => Programme und Funktionen => Windows-Features aktivieren oder deaktivieren => Unterstützung für die SMB 1.0/CIFS-Dateifreigabe

Microsoft points out some disadvantages in speed and functionality if you disable SMB2 / SMB3

From Windows10 point of view it would be nice to have an actual samba server version.

Hi uelpenich,

Thank you to confirm this issue. We know it (see the related topic on the nas central board)
http://forum.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=236&p=111977

We plan to see if these lacie platforms can use a more recent samba version
