3TB disk support?

3TB disk support?

Postby jaho_gbg » Mon May 21, 2012 10:26 am

I found this forum a few weeks ago, picked up my old NS1 1GB which I thought was dead. I installed v10 release and yeah! It suddenly works. Upgrade to v12 also worked fine and the NS is now live and well again.

However, I have one issue that I cannot solve. I need more space! Bigger disks! :)
I have a WD Caviar Green 3TB which I have experimented with. I have tested formattning and installing and everything seems fine until boot. The disk does not boot. For some reason the NS1 bios does not seem to boot a disk using GPT.
I've searched this forum and other but I have yet to find the answer.

So, the simple question is: How can I use a 3TB disk in NS1? Is it even impossible?

The bootloader in the nwsp1 can not handle disk bigger then 2.2 TB. Thats because it is the limitation from a conventional partition table. The bootloader doesn't support GPT

Oh, ok, then I guess I will have to settle for the other 2TB disk that I know works in nwsp1. :)

Thanks for the quick answer and your excellent software!!

If you must buy a 2 TB disk, I advise you to buy directly a NWSP 2.
With a small difference in price, you will have a far more efficient NAS. :-D

Be careful, there are two versions of nwsp 2: http://www.plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=213
