how to install the first version on a new disk

Postby krom77 » Thu Oct 13, 2022 2:55 pm

hello,

I am trying to install the NWSP1-first-time-install-package-13feb14 version on a new disk, but the procedure described in the pdf does not seem to work.

When I do a fdisk to start, the first sector is not 1 but 2048 and by searching a bit on the forum I see that they speak about cylinder but fdisk does not send me any cylinder information.

How can I do it ? Thanks in advance.

Precision my sata disk is in a usb drive adaptator connected to a lubuntu in a virtual machine on virtualbox.

I just saw that there is fvdw-sl-console-6-0 +18-1 firmware. Install via ms windows .

Does it work on a blank unpartitioned disk? and a networkspace v1 that has never run custom firmware?

No not on a nwsp1. This because that device has only 16 MB ram. To small to load standalone kernel and run it from ram

thx for your response , but it's sad ... ;(

So, how to do the installation manually? the documentation in the .rar doesn't help me at all. if i respect point by point the procedure i create 32kb partitions on a 1to disk because as i said fdisk works by sector and not by cylinder. how big should the partitions be? can't i do it with gparted for example?

And more how to proceed on a disk of 2to ? because is my final objective ...

it is precisely this subject which speaks about cylinder but as I said if I make a fdisk I do not see any mention of cylinder but only of sectors...

maybe an old version of fdisk worked differently, but here whatever options I use, there is no mention of cylinder ....

it makes me crazy :hairpull

In fdisk give command "u" (without the quotes) to switch between sectors and cylinders

so thanks to you ! the installation seems to have gone well, but I have a problem to connect to the web interface. login:admin pass:admin does not work...

the popup for the login opens and seems to reset whatever the login pass I type, but no error message.
