Firmware 16.1 upgrade crash

Firmware 16.1 upgrade crash

Postby musicscoree96 » Thu Dec 31, 2015 11:07 am

Hey, I tryed to upgrade my NS1 with firmware 16.1 and used firefox. The upgrade crashed and de NS1 did not boot. So I connected the disk to an ubuntu workstation and followed the steps first install step k: through the end (installing the linux kernel and the firmware 15.1, not removing partitions). This worked fine and the NAS is booting again. Everything seems to work. Then I did the upgrade to 16.1 using IE11 and this also worked perfect. But I now lost my share (myshare). The data is still on the disk but I cannot see the share. How can I mount that share again and hopefully get my data back. PLEASE HELP

Hi musicscoree96,

:disapprove :disapprove :disapprove :disapprove
Before doing a such drastic method, please to post here.... As a basic way would have restored your NAS.
So I connected the disk to an ubuntu workstation and followed the steps first install step k: through the end (installing the linux kernel and the firmware 15.1, not removing partitions).
Do you format sda8 ?
Code: Select all
mke2fs -j -m 1 /dev/sdb8

if yes I am sorry but there is no way to get back your data. :(

Thank you for yoy very quick answer.

Yes I did. :hammerhead Looking add the partitions I thought sda4 was the partition with the data. I'm not a linux user as you all know now. So I lost my data (this is realy shit but I think I will survive). Can I cleanup the disk and get full space available (without complete build the disk in a ubuntu workstation)

Yes you can clean your disk to reuse it on your workstation. In anyway, you will be able to re-install the firmware later

Thank you. I will build the disk in the ubuntu workstation and delete all partitions and follow the first install again.

I learned that I first have to ask you guys if I have a NAS NS1 problem.

Thank you again.

I don't understand why you want to reinstall fully the firmware as you already did it :
Then I did the upgrade to 16.1 using IE11 and this also worked perfect. But I now lost my share (myshare).
