pity to hear this but there must be a reason, if you have another disk you could try that.
I am sure we can solve this as there are many nwsp1 running with the firmware
good night,

I did some more reading on the internet

here they reported also a problem witht his disk not being recognized http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/topic11028.html
It is not a Nas but also there initiazation failed.
They talk about that it has to be set to sata-1 mode. (standard it seems to be a sata-II disk)

is this a new disk ? or did it come out of the nwsp1 itself ?

need to check if I can find some info on the sata controller in the nwsp1

---edit
it should be able to work with it this is the original output of nwsp1 booting

Intergrated Sata device found

You could also try to use a Knoppix CD to see if Ubuntu messes up the disk (not likely)

and what is the actual setup you use to prepare the disk ?

Hi,

Many Thanks about this information.

The disk is the original disk from the nwsp1.

I have already checked the partition an another Linux, it's OK.

I did you mean by "actual setup" on my ubuntu ?

What did you think if i try to connect the nwsp1 by TTL, I find the connector description here http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/NetworkSpace:_Serial_Port_Access
Maybe in this way I could get more information from UBoot.

I would like also test the nwsp1 on another network maybe the problem is my network because the other nwsp1 is clean I never change anything and it doesn't want to start too.

I will work on it certainly sunday afternoon.

See you,

Bye,

a serial connector won't help, it will give same output and possibilities as the u-boot console via windows.

As long as you nwsp1 can not initialize the disk it won't work. There must be a reason why the nwsp1 can not recognize/initialize the disk.

With actual setup I mean how did you connect the disk to a pc running Linux ? For instance using a usb->sata connector, or did you use a free sata port on the PC. We have seen some problems with usb<->sata interfaces.

We could even try if the nwsp1 can detect the disk when connected to the usb port of the nwsp1 using the usb->sata connector that you probably used.

As said several hundred of nwsp1 out there are running the firmware without a problem, so this must be possible to solve.
The fact that it is not recognized on two nwsp1 and that the IDE rest command s fails in U-boot makes it very likely that the disk setup has a problem

maybe still some left overs are present from lacie or ubuntu set something in the master boot record.
To wipe out everything you could use this command to fill the area were master boot record is present by zero's
Code: Select all
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/diskname bs=512 count=1

after this prepare the disk again as you did before

Hi,

Sorry for that big break.

About the connection i used a free sata port into the PC.

This week i tried again to prepare the disk with include the command that init the boot record.

Unfortunately the nwsp1 still does not work.

I also tried to connect the disk on usb with a adapter but I have got the same issue.

suggest you try once more the u-boot console if your nwsp1 is recognizing the disk (see earlier posts using ide reset and ide part)
If it still doesn't recognize the disk there is something wrong with the hard ware in your nwsp1 or the disk
If you have another disk you could try if that works. If that also doesn't work then the nwsp1 is "kaput"
