then also the kernel cannot access the drive

I did some reading ion the internet and found that newer version of fdisk do not use ms-dos compatible mode by default. The newer version also use default sectors instead of cylinders.
Now I never saw problems and never used om systems this flag but maybe ubuntu use a different default setting.
There must be a reason why as well u-boot as the kernel cannot read this disk. I know that the nwsp1 needs an ms-dos partition table on the disk. I checked my fdisk version and the ms-dos flag is set by default.
I know you probably are not happy to do the partitioning again with the dos flag set (it is the c parameter in fdisk menu) but it is on this moment the only thing that makes sense and could be a reason for the problem

It's a good starting the partition table looks like the tutorial partition :

Périphérique Amorce Début Fin Blocs Id Système
/dev/sdb1 1 32 257008+ 83 Linux
/dev/sdb2 33 64 257040 83 Linux
/dev/sdb3 65 96 257040 82 partition d'échange Linux / Solaris
/dev/sdb4 97 121601 975988912+ 5 Étendue
/dev/sdb5 97 144 385528+ 83 Linux
/dev/sdb6 145 145 8001 83 Linux
/dev/sdb7 146 178 265041 83 Linux
/dev/sdb8 179 121601 975330216 83 Linux

Now I'm formatting the drive and copying the image !
