I noticed in your output that you used "sda", how did you connect the harddisk to you PC with ubuntu ?
Normally sda is the main drive in a PC and when using an usb->sata connector the disk is has device id sdb...
So are you sure you prepared the right disk

The only difference I have seen between the tutorial and my disk is the size of the bloc (example on sda6 in my disk the size = 7008+ and on the tutorial the size = 8001
Code: Select all
Périphérique Amorce Début Fin Blocs Id Système
/dev/sda1 1 32 256016 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 33 64 257040 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 65 96 257040 82 partition d'échange Linux / Solaris
/dev/sda4 97 121601 975988912+ 5 Étendue
/dev/sda5 97 144 384536 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 145 145 7008+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 146 178 264048+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda8 179 121601 975329223+ 83 Linux

Code: Select all
Device    Boot Start End  Blocks   Id System
/dev/sdb1       1     32   257008+   83  Linux
/dev/sdb2      33     64   257040        83  Linux
/dev/sdb3      65     96   257040        82  Linux swap
/dev/sdb4      97    121601  9xxxx+     5  Extended
/dev/sdb5      97    144  385528+    83  Linux
/dev/sdb6     145   145  8001          83 Linux
/dev/sdb7     146  178  257040       83  Linux
/dev/sdb8     179    121601 9xxxxxx    83  Linux

mmm...thats indeed not normal. But lets first try the following

If u-boot has a problem to recognize the disk (which is strange) then what we could try is if it wants to boot a kernel via network.
We will load the kernel using the fvdw-sl-console. The kernel is able to indentify sata disks and will load the firmware from the right partition.
To do this you have to put the nwsp1 kernel in the subfolder tftp of the folder where you installed the fvdw-sl-console.
As the console is currently designed to load only nwsp2 kernels we need to fake it.
rename the nwsp1 kernel in a way that it has NWSP2CL in its name, otherwise the console will reject the kernel

choose option load external kernel in the action menu and follow the instruction
