Problem vith xfvdw-sl-14-0-isp1-23dec2012

Postby em.manuel » Sun Feb 24, 2013 12:06 pm

Hello,

First of all, thanks for this alternative firmware that I installed yesterday successfully (V10) on my old LaCie network space v1.

After installing version 10, I tried to upgrade to version 12, and version 14 but, for both version, I'm unable to unzip the downloaded zip file.
I tried MacOS X Lion, Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 7. I even downloaded 7zip on my Windows 7 machine. No success : the zip file seems to be corrupted.

Win7 error message : The Compressed (Zipped) Folder <complete path> is invalid.

Thanks for you help

do you have a network space 1 (nwsp1) or internet space 1 (isp1) ?

The title of your post suggest isp1 while your message mentions nwsp1 ??

uhh, you are right the title of my post is wrong... I downloaded the zip many times and at some point I probably took the wrong one.

I just tried again with xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.zip and it is the same. MacOS 10.7 is unable to unzip it.

If you think the zip is OK, could you, please, suggest a software to decompress it? I have MacOS, Win 7, Win XP and Ubuntu...

Many thanks

I'm using my company PC (running a big brother-ized US version of Win 7 that could be causing problems...)

My download method is quite "normal" : I right click on the link and choose "Save target as".
(There is no Extract option in my right click menu).

When I double-clic the downloaded .zip, I get : "Windows cannot open the folder. The compressed (zipped) folder <full path.zip> is invalid".
Similar issue if I try opening it with 7zip.

I'm buying my own Win 7 machine. I will check again when I have it up and running.

In between, I downloaded the 4 .rar files that 7zip can open.
What should I do with the 4 .bin files I obtain? Upload them one by one to the NAS?
(Sorry for being so dumb, but all that is not really in my domain of competencies).

Thanks

must be something on your pc here the files just open fine, maybe your company pc doesn't allow to have files with extension .bin as those are typically binary files and could coantain virus. In this case the bin file is a compressed bz2 archive

Anyhow when unpacking the "rar"files you should get 1 (one) bin file. Just unpack the first rar file and it will automatically unpack the ohers as well and produce the "bin"file

Hello,

Now I'm using my own Win7 machine (precisely, it is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bits, SP1 in French - sorry for that).
I still have issues:

Win 7 is unable to unzip the xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.zip I downloaded again (size 48,2 Mo (50 601 812 octets) octet = byte).
Error message is :
Windows ne peut pas ouvrir le dossier (cannot open the folder)
Le dossier compressé <full path> n'est pas valide. (Compressed folder is not valid).

I tried WinZip and 7zip but it is about the same.

I downloaded the 4 .rar files and WinRAR 4.20 (64 bits) and I tried to open xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.part1.rar
I got xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.bin (size 58,5 Mo (61 350 476 octets))

Is this OK? I thought that the firmware was bigger than that.

Thanks very much

Hi em.manuel,

yes, the size "61 350 476 B" is right. So you can use it to upgrade your NAS.

About your zip file, you can test if there is an issue with the download by the md5sum, you must get this value
Code: Select all
md5sum xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.zip
5b8a195c31d8cd638c62457cb835308e  xfvdw-sl-14-0-nwsp1-23dec2012.zip

if not then you have a problem with your ISP access
