Error with Firmwareupgrade fvdw-sl-13

Hi all,

I tried to install on SPD8020 Firmwareupgrade fvdw-sl-13. After 12 hours the upgrade was not installed.
I have no access to my SPD8020, also not with putty

Is it possibel to make an upgrade without webinterface and without too loose my data

I did the upgrade on my spd8020 and had no problems

Can you describe a little more what you did and were the upgrade failed and what you have done after that ?

If it was hanging in step 3, reboot, then just force a reboot by pressing the power button or disconnecting and reconnecting the power.

If the spd8020 is not accessible anymore and refuse to boot then the only way to bring it back to life is taking out the HDD and install firmware again (see how to new HDD guide for spd8020). You only need to write then the firmware image in the package for new HDD to partition sdb1 and sdb2
The partition structure of your nas should already be ok and als the content of the other partitions mentioned

PS Your data is still on the spd8020 HDD, it is in partition sda6. As long as you don't touch that partition all your data is safe.

ps2 did you use the correct upgrade file (the one for the spd8020 ?)

ps3 if I remember right you have replace the original disk of the spd8020 by a 2 TB disk and had some problems setting it up.
Did you finally succeeded to set up as in the how to guide ?. if you did not make the partitions sdb1 and sdb2 big enough then it might be the cause of your problem. The fvdw-sl 13-0 firmware disk image is now 250 MB in size after extracting it (the previous version was only 200 MB) If the partition to write the image to are too small then it can cause problems and an error message should be displayed in step2

many thanks for your quick answer. I have found the data in sdb6 and i made a copy of my data.

The upgrade stopped in Step2 without error - after 12hours, i rebooted the 8020.

to ps2: I think so, but I will download it again - just to be safe

to ps3: yes you are right :-) I replaced my original disk to a 2TB disk.
I'll check my sdb1 and sdb2 about the size.

The size was big enough - maybe the false upgrade

at first, thanks for your work and your quick answer.

I cannot say exactly, what was the problem - I downloaded your Firmware again....

what did I do with the SPD 8020.
I wrote the image sda1 and sda2 to the SPD8020 - then I had an access with web interface, but it was not possible to make an update (Error message).
After I wrote the image sd5 to the SPD8020 - the update was running and successful.

a couple of restarts strangely did the trick. now i'll upgrade to v14

Otherwise to get the image file, you must do :
From an UNIX/Linux OS, use tar command :

tar -xvf /path-to-your/xfvdw-sl-xx-y-phn-date.bin -C /pathto/Destination

Where xx-y is the firmware version and Destination is the folder where you want to get the uncompressed files. In this folder, you will find a file named as : xfvdw-sl-xx-y-phn-date.img
