Backup with rsync

Backup with rsync

Postby schneeweis » Mon Aug 20, 2012 10:45 am

Hi

I would use the SPD8020 as backup. The another NAS use rsync as Backuptool (Port 873).
It's possible to use this port and the rsync command with spd 8020
My firmware on the SPD is SL12-1

thanks a lot

I guess you just have to try ;)

Ps there is a backup feature on the spd8020, this uses Rsync. You could use that
About the question on the port I don't know rsync is implemented by Jocko but he is not around at he moment

Not clear what you ant to do.
on the spd8020 rsync is not running as server, it is used as command to perform a backup task copying cotent of a local or remote folder to another local or remote folder. See backup menu of the firmware. It can be set as cron job mening it will perform the backup at time you have set
To perform a backup there is no need to have rsync running as server :scratch

I would use the SPD as Backup
I have an other NAS (QNAP) that use rsynch as Backupsystem (Server) - I need to start rsynch with Qnap the IP of the SPD8020 (that is not the problem) and the Port

thanks a lot

I still do not understand why you need then a "port" on the spd8020. Rsync on you QNAP can use rsync to store data on the "samba" shares :scratch

Also if you mount the the shares of the QNAP that you want to back up as remote shares on the spd8020 you can use rsync and the cron on the spd8020 to do the backup. The spd8020 uses rsync for that. It doesn't need to know a "port" on the QNAP.
