Code: Select all
I used the knoppix myself in the past but it is long ago. Nowadays I use one of my NAS device to prepare a HDD.
When knoppix is is running select the terminaol program for superuser (root) and work in there exactly according to the guide.
First thing to check is when you have the terminal window open to see the properties of the disk
Assuming the connected disk is sdb a command like
Code: Select all
fdisk /dev/sdb

will give output like this
Code: Select all
 # fdisk /dev/sda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 121601.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help):

give as command "p" (without the quotes)

This will give output like this
Code: Select all
Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks  Id System
/dev/sda1               1          32      257008+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2   *          33          64      257040  83 Linux
/dev/sda3              65          96      257040  82 Linux swap
/dev/sda4              97      121601   975988912+  5 Extended
/dev/sda5              97         144      385528+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda6             145      121601   975603321  83 Linux

Command (m for help):

This example is the disk currently in use in my spd8020 and it is a 1 TB disk as you can see.

Now what is the output for your disk ?

Need to go wietje, some visitors arrived at my home

But when you have a root shell then it should be possible to follow the guide to make the right partitions and write the firmware

ps some helpful information on knoppix can be found for example here http://matt.blissett.me.uk/linux/howto/ ... _commands/

...I will be back
