Upgrading from old FvdW version 4.2

Upgrading from old FvdW version 4.2

Postby Riesg1 » Fri Jul 20, 2018 8:10 am

Hi all,

been here before (and actually was a member of the Buffalo forum as well but it seems it does not excist anymore) but for some reason the restore password option does not match the Capcha so I had to make a new user-id

But, as the topic title already explains, I am still running the 4.2 version (release 6 march 2009) on my SPD8020. It runs stable and was enough for streaming music to my Roku Soundbridge with the firefly server.

Now however, I want to let my amplifer (Yamaha RX-V577) to tap into the music database as well as the amp can connect to DLNA/UPnP servers. I saw in the latest version that there is a miniDLNA posibility so maybe that would do the trick as the current firmware does not.

What is the best way to upgrade from the current version on my NAS to the latest? Can I just download and run it or do I need to update a few earlier versions before installing the latest one?

Best regards,
Richard

Suggest as first step to read this topic
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=234

Ps read also the last part of the part about upgrading from version lower then 5
So use the special file to upgrade to 10-1

After that upgrade to 16-1. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2313#p20335

Then install the rool up patch to able to install 17-0
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2677

Then install 17-0

Thanks for the tip. Just downloaded the "lower then 5", unpacked it and selected it on the submenu firmware and pushed update firmware.
Nothing on screen for 5 minutes but then screen says no connection.

After a few tries I get the menu back on screen but with the 4.2 release again. Should I try again? Or does it not work on the NAS?

Wait, something funny happened, I can see current firmware phn fvdw-sl 10.1 and on the bottom of the screen it says © by Philips and FvdW version fvdw 4.2 release 6 March 2009.

Seems I can choose :-D , but it seems it works. What it also says is Warning Firmware 1 through 5

Extracted, you get a bin file. Used that file to upgrade.

Sorry you mentioned you unpacked it.

It seems that you did not clear caches of your browser. Close it and open it again. If still not fully normal clear caches of your browser using instructions of microsift, firefox or google dependent on browser you use

I closed and opened the browser (IE) and got in again. On the top it says firmware 10.1, I was just used to see the firmware on the bottom where it says 4.2.

I guess I am running 10.1 now as browsing through menu's seems a lot faster

I am sorry to bother you with it. You helped me big time all those years back when I upgraded to 4.2 and you have no problem helping again. I really appriciate it. I will start the following part to upgrade according to your previous posts.

As this seems to go rather smooth I trust that won't be a problem as well.
