Transmission Restart problems..

Re: Transmission Restart problems..

I tried the torrent from babadagi and indeed the transmission-daemon stopped after a several minutes.
I have put back the 2.22 version to see if that doesn't fail, it is running right now

If someone want to test it as well please find attached the transmission-daemon version 2.22 as present in fvdw-sl-9-0
To install it unpack it and put it in the share "fvdw"

edit

because the uploadfile feature in the webinterface does not preserver the permission of a file copied an as result the binary copied is not set set as executable so transmission won't start, therefor using the uploadfile feature is not the way to go for this trial, below an alternative method is given to install the previous transmission daemon

If you install this previous version please use transmission remote gui to control transmission and not the webinterface in the fvdw-sl firmware, the webinterface page will not work properly as it is for version 2.42. You can still start and stop the transmission server via the webinterface.

Connect to the sp8020 via ssh using for instance Putty.

On the command line type following commands
Code: Select all
cp /share/1000/fvdw/transmission-daemon /usr/bin/
chmod 755 /usr/bin/transmission-daemon

This will overwrite the 2.42 transmission-daemon binary with version 2.22 and set the file as executable
On my spsd8020 its now running since 20 minutes and not stopping

transmission-daemon-2-22.zip

Beautifully failed !!!

I created a fvdw share, unzipped the file and copied to the share.
I went through the webinterface and copy/paste your commands.

Finally tranmission doesn't start anymore. Well done, my friend.

How can I rollback to 9.0 ??

rolling back to 9-0 is easy just install the fvdw-sl-9-0 firmware upgrade file

I tested it once more and indeed in this way the binary is copied but it is not set as executable. i forgot that using this upload feature is not suitable for binaries.

It can be solved easily just access the spd8020 via ssh using putty as user root and witht he password you have set for ssh
then type at the command line

Code: Select all
chmod 755 /usr/bin/transmission-daemon

and now transmission will start again ;) sorry for this...

it's getting better and better.

I tried to re-install fw10 and this is the result.

Firmware upgrade step 2 started...
Firmware upgrade failed, upgrade process aborted, reason:
firmware upgrade function failed on fs verify (read check of files system written to partition)

Oh man ....

Just install once more, this check is done to verify if writing the image went ok. If this check fails something went wrong with the disk during writing. Can be a bad sector on the disk.

FW process re-upgrade went ok. (pooohh...)

Transmission 2.42 is crap.
After installing T 2.22 and chmod as you advised it runs smoothly. So the daemon itself isn't working properly.

good to hear you got it under control. :)

Yep it seems 2.42 transmission daemon has some bugs. On the next release we will roll back to 2.22

PS It seems you are a litle nervous when installing firmware but basically is nothing more then writing a image to a partition. Even if it fails and the NAS no longer boots it can be recovered and brought back to live by taking it out of the casing. Its almost impossible to brick this NAS. ;) Think you worry a little bit to much on installing firmware but I agree taking out the disk and so is a thing you want to avoid. The file system check is done to prevent that the new firmware won't boot because of a disk write error and in fact protects you for a failure. If the check fails it won't change the boot flag and keep using the version currently running. :ugeek:

Good to know, but on the NAS all my Musik and Navigation maps are on. It will be a loss to loose the stuff.

Got to read that there's some kind of a test procedure as I failed with a firmware with a router recently. It was broken afterwards ... this is life ;(

Anyhow, the daemon works ok. Thanks for the help.
