Access directory via WebDav without any credentials

Access directory via WebDav without any credentials

Postby marioth1 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 6:37 pm

Hello,

is it somehow possible to configure a share to be available for http-access without prompting for credentials?

The "public" setting doesn't do this. I think public means, that every user configured on the nas can access the share and
with "private" setting I can define which of the nas users have access to which share but how can I make a directory public
without prompting a browser for user and password?

best regards

Hi marioth1

Still available for some time. ;)

Our firmware does not allow it for obvious safety issues like fvdw wrote previously and keep in mind that these are small NAS (even with 5big) totally inadequate for public web access.

Access with write permission is a nonsense only a read access could be considered but it must be done manually (we do not incorporate this possibility in the firmware)

I'm thinking if there is a simple method for a regular user. (maybe an answer next Tuesday)

Hi,

I'm aware that the little box with its 16MB RAM is not powerful enough for some kind of webserver.
What I want to do is stream some media to my iphone over the web. The problem is that all
of the iOs Apps I've tried (like VLC) don't support authentication. VLC even has
a problem with the https access, it doesn't accept the certificate (I think because it can't access
the CA-Certificate even if it is installed on the phone). When trying with standard http I get a 401 => unauthorized,
so something without authorization may work.

Maybe you have some other idea to accomplish this?

Maybe a better way is to use DLNA servers.
So for music :
Enable firefly on your NAS and install the simple daap client on you iphone (see : http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.os.free ... ons/294288)
for other media :
same thing Enable on your NAS a media server like minidlna and install a streaming video client like AirPlayer for example .
